Ukraine has identified 1,987 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said during the daily briefing held at 9.15 a.m. on Aug. 23.
At least 50,452 people are currently fighting the disease across Ukraine.
In the past 24 hours, Ukraine has recorded 27 deaths from COVID-19, 343 patients have been hospitalized and 500 people have recovered.
The largest numbers of new cases were registered in the city of Kyiv (307), Chernivtsi Oblast (213), Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (174), Kharkiv Oblast (169), Lviv Oblast (146) and in Odesa Oblast (121).

“We are recording a rise in number of infected almost in all regions of the country,” Stepanov said during the press briefing. “Kyiv has never seen such an outbreak,” he added.
The total number of infections identified in the country since the start of the pandemic stands at 104,958. A total of 52,235 people have recovered and 2,271 have died of the disease.
During the past 24 hours, laboratories have administered 15,275 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests across the country, Stepanov said during a briefing on Aug. 23. Additionally, they also carried out 7,508 antibody tests (IFA).

Since Aug. 3, new rules for the COVID-19 quarantine have come into force in Ukraine: communities, rather than entire regions, are now divided into green, yellow, orange, and red levels of severity of the spread of COVID-19. The authorities in districts, cities, and towns will have to tighten or relax quarantine restrictions in accordance to the new categories. The levels are based on four indicators that are reviewed every five days.
Starting from Aug. 24, the new territorial divisions come into effect for the next 14 days. Chernivtsi is now in the red zone, Ternopil, Kharkiv and Lviv are in the orange zone, and Kyiv is the yellow zone. The full list is available here.
