A total of 10,278 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were administered across the country during the past 24 hours. In addition, Ukrainian laboratories carried out 4,741 antibody tests (ELISA), Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said at his morning briefing on July 12.
Although the number of COVID-19 infections in Ukraine is still high, the country is opening its international borders. Infrastructure minister Vladyslav Krykliy said that the government is working to speed up the installation of laboratories in airports in Kyiv and Lviv to ensure that arriving passengers can get a PCR test on the spot. People with negative results will not have to self-isolate.
To avoid crowding near the labs, Krykliy is working with the Ministry of Digital Transformation to allow travelers to receive test results via the Diy Vdoma coronavirus isolation app.
Globally, the number of COVID-19 cases reached over 12.8 million as of July 12; over 567,734 have died and 7.5 million patients have recovered.
The United States, Brazil, India, and Russia are struggling the hardest to curb the spread of the disease. Ukraine ranks 32nd in the world by total number of cases but has done significantly fewer tests since the beginning of the outbreak compared to other countries.
