In total, 14,498 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were administered across the country during the past 24 hours. In addition, Ukrainian laboratories carried out 15,228 antibody tests (ELISA), Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said at his morning briefing on July 23.
Ukraine will extend its COVID-19 quarantine restrictions until August 31, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine indicated in a decree it issued on July 22. The country will be divided into four epidemiological zones (green, yellow, orange and red) depending on the COVID-19 situation in different Ukrainian oblasts.
The decision for an oblast to move from one zone to another will be made by the State Commission on Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations in order to ensure the decision is not motivated by politics in the run-up to local elections in October, according to Stepanov.
Currently, four drugs produced by Ukrainian pharmaceutical companies are undergoing clinical trials, Stepanov said during the briefing on April 22. These drugs may be useful in treating COVID-19, but their effectiveness is, so far, unproven.
Globally, the number of COVID-19 cases has reached over 15.3 million as of July 23; over 630,000 people have died and more than 9.3 million patients have recovered.
