Ukraine has identified 1,318 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours as of 9 a.m. on Aug. 6, a new daily record for the second day in a row. There are currently 32,465 active cases across the country, and 5,280 people are receiving treatment in hospitals, including 158 patients on lung ventilators.
In the past 24 hours, Ukraine has recorded 31 deaths from COVID-19, 262 patients were hospitalized and 997 people have recovered.
The largest numbers of new cases were registered in Lviv Oblast (197), Kyiv city (180), Kharkiv Oblast (142), Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (127) and Odesa Oblast (110). Of all new COVID-19 cases, 69 were diagnosed among children and 67 among medical workers.
The total number of infections identified in Ukraine since the start of the pandemic stands at 76,808. A total of 42,524 people have recovered and 1,819 have died of the disease.
In total, 17,976 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were administered across the country during the past 24 hours. In addition, Ukrainian laboratories carried out 19,513 antibody tests (ELISA), Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said at his morning briefing on Aug. 6.
Since Aug. 3, new rules for COVID-19 quarantine have come into force in Ukraine: Communities, rather than entire regions, are now divided into green, yellow, orange and red levels of severity of COVID-19 spread. The authorities in districts, cities and towns will have to tighten or relax quarantine restrictions in accordance with these categorizations. The levels are based on four indicators that will be reviewed every five days.
On Aug. 2, the health ministry released an updated list of “green” and “red” countries — those where the COVID-19 situation is better and worse than in Ukraine, respectively. Foreigners arriving in Ukraine from green zone countries have to present medical insurance covering COVID-19. Those coming from the red zone have to have medical insurance and either take a PCR test or self-quarantine for 14 days with the tracking app Diy Vdoma.
