  • Son of president Poroshenko’s top ally accused of embezzling millions. 26-year-old Ihor Hladkovskiy, the son of the head of Ukraine’s Security and Defense Council, has allegedly embezzled the state defense budget — he’s suspected of smuggling used parts from Russia and selling them to Ukrainian defense companies at inflated prices.
  • Liability for illegal enrichment now unconstitutional, Ukraine’s Constitutional Court rules. This means the burden of proving wrongdoing is now solely on the side of the prosecution. However, introducing liability for illegal enrichment was an EU requirement for granting Ukraine visa-free regime.

  • Poroshenko to give every pensioner $90. Ukraine’s needy pensioners will get a one-time payment of nearly $90 in March and April by the order of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The presidential election will take place on March 31.
  • Two culprits of horrific car accident get sentenced. Olena Zaitseva and Hennadiy Dronov who were involved in a car accident, which killed six people and shook the country over a year ago, were both sentenced to 10 years in prison.
