The ability to travel to European Union countries with an electronic vaccination certificate may not be far away.

The EU has officially decided that Ukraine’s pending COVID-19 vaccination certificates in the Diia mobile app meet European standards, the Digital Transformation Ministry reported on Aug. 19.

“Ukrainians will be able to travel safely again without the restrictions caused by the pandemic,” the Ministry said.

For now, Diia vaccination certificates are still a work in progress.

Representatives of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Ministry of Health and the EU will discuss how Ukrainians will be able to travel at a briefing on Aug. 20.

Ukraine’s digital COVID certificate had already passed a technical assessment in the EU on Aug. 4.

“The EU technical team highly appreciated the timing, accuracy and compliance of our documents with EU requirements,” the Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov wrote

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal noted that the government will continue to work to make travel to Europe available for Ukrainians.

The Digital Transformation Ministry started beta testing COVID-19 certificates in Diia on Android on Aug. 18 and on iOS in July.

A COVID-19 certificate is a document in the Diia application that confirms vaccination status, PCR test results and recovery from coronavirus. The certificate will appear alongside other digital documents in the application.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Diia has gotten so successful that several countries want their own versions, Slovo i Dilo reported
