Seven more COVID-19 cases confirmed in Ukraine: 14 in total – two fatal

  • A second person has died from the novel coronavirus in Ukraine, while the total number of confirmed cases in the country has grown to 14, Ukraine’s health ministry reported on March 17.

  • But nearly 86,500 people crossed Ukraine’s state border on March 17: They were required to answer questions about their health and have their body temperatures measured. Some medical experts have warned that people without symptoms might be driving the spread of coronavirus
  • Kyivans self-quarantine as the capital’s restaurants and bars shut down: All restaurants, night clubs, gyms, beauty salons and shopping malls have been shut down in Kyiv.
  • Parliament introduced fines for violating quarantine, lifted some tax burden on businesses: Lawmakers passed four bills during a special parliamentary session in the early morning of March 17.
  • Foreigners will not be fined for visa overstays during quarantine: After a week of bureaucratic terror and uncertainty amid the coronavirus outbreak, some living in Ukraine can breathe a small sigh of relief.
  • Agroholding executive Ihor Petrashko was appointed economy minister: The top manager at agroholding UkrLandFarming, has become Ukraine’s economy minister.
