  • Six days before the presidential election, a new poll brings no change: Actor Volodymyr Zelenskiy still leads the race (19.5 percent), followed by the incumbent President Petro Poroshenko (10.3 percent) and head of Batkivshchyna party Yulia Tymoshenko (7.6 percent).
  • Meanwhile, Zelenskiy’s newly-created party Servant of the People continues to lead the polls among the parties that are expected to run for parliament in October.
  • The growth of Ukraine’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2018 reached a record level since 2011 – growing by 3.3 percent compared to 2.5 percent in 2017, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine reported on March 21.
  • If Joseph Biden enters the race for U.S. president in 2020, he’ll face renewed questions about his son Hunter’s association with Ukraine’s Burisma energy company during his eight years as U.S. vice president. The allegations are resurfacing as Peter Schweizer, the president of the conservative non-profit think tank Government Accountability Institute, made sensational comments on Fox News.
  • Russian airborne forces hold large offensive drills in the occupied Crimea. Up to 1,500 Russian airborne troopers, in addition to over 300 military vehicles, including combat helicopters, military transport aircraft, and Black Sea Fleet landing craft, have been deployed to Crimea to drill major offensive operations, according to Russia.
  • Meanwhile, a French navy warship has been docked in the Ukrainian port city of Odesa since March 23, making it the second NATO ship to visit Ukraine since the beginning of this year.
